The JTA Privacy Policy

At The JTA, we collect and manage user data according to the following Privacy Policy, and by using thejta.org (the “Website”), you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy, as applied to Site Visitors and JTA Members is set out below.

Site Visitors (“visitors”) are those who visit and use services on the Publicly Accessible areas of the Website.

JTA Members (“members”) are authorised Graduate and Affiliate members of the JWAAD Teachers’ Association, who have access to log-on and visit and use services on the private members only area (“members’ area”) of the Website.

Data Collected

We collect anonymous data from every visitor of the Website to monitor traffic and fix bugs. For example, we collect information like web requests, the data sent in response to such requests, the Internet Protocol address, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request.

On applying to become a member of the JTA, we ask you to provide certain personal information (such as your name and contact details), in order to enable your application to be processed. This information is stored as your “Private Profile” and is used by the JTA to administer your membership. If your application is unsuccessful, your Private Profile will be deleted.

In order to take advantage of certain features of the Website, on becoming a member of the JTA, you may also choose to provide us with other personal information. Your decision to utilise these features and provide such data will always be voluntary.

In order to enable these or any other login based features, we use cookies to store session information for your convenience. You can block or delete cookies and still be able to use thejta.org, although if you do you will then be asked for your username and password every time you log in to the Website.

You are able to view data associated with your Private Profile at any time by accessing the members’ area. You may also change and remove selected data at any time, other than any data fundamental to allow the JTA to manage your membership.

You are able to view, change and remove data associated with your Public Profile at any time by accessing the members’ area. Should you wish your Public Profile to be deleted permanently, please contact us at webmaster@thejta.org and we will follow up any such request as soon as possible. Please note that your membership of the JTA, teaching and class details will not be visible to visitors to the website following deletion of your Public Profile.

Should your membership lapse, your Public Profile will be suspended for a period of 1 month, to give you an opportunity to renew your membership without losing your data. It will not be viewable to visitors to the site during this period. Following this period, your Public and Private profiles will be deleted as soon as practicable.

Should you choose to delete your account at any other time, please contact us at webmaster@thejta.org and we will follow up any such request as soon as possible.

Use of the Data

Certain personal information (such as your name and email address) are used in order to be able to save your profile.

We only use your personal information to provide you services or to communicate with you about the services or the Website. We employ industry standard techniques to protect against unauthorised access of data about you that we store, including personal information. We do not share personal information you have provided to us without your consent,unless:

  • doing so is appropriate to carry out your own request;
  • we believe it is needed to detect, prevent or address fraud, security or technical issues;
  • we believe it is needed to otherwise protect our property, legal rights, or that of others.

The JTA is operated from the United Kingdom. If you are visiting the Website from outside the United Kingdom, you agree to any processing of any personal information you provide us according to this policy.

The JTA may contact you, by email or other means. For example, The JTA may send you news and promotional emails relating to The JTA or other third parties The JTA feels you would be interested in, or communicate with you about your use of the The JTA website. If you do not want to receive email from The JTA, please opt out of receiving emails by emailing membership@thejta.org. Please note that in doing so, newsletters and details of training events and the Annual General Meeting will not be automatically forwarded to you. You may, however, keep informed of these at your own convenience by accessing the members’ area.

Sharing of Data

We do not share your personal information with third parties.

We employ and contract with people and other entities that perform certain tasks on our behalf and who are under our control (our “Agents”). We may need to share personal information with our Agents in order to provide products or services to you. Unless we tell you differently, our Agents do not have any right to use Personal Information or other information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us. You hereby consent to our sharing of Personal Information with our Agents.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make major changes in the way we collect or use information, we will notify you by posting an announcement on the Website or sending you an email. A user is bound by any changes to the Privacy Policy when he or she uses the Services after such changes have been first posted.
